In 2007 Åkers signed a Joint Venture contract for a manufacturing facility for work rolls for hot strip mills, Steckel mills and plate mills up to 20 tons in China with Taiyuan Iron and Steel (Group) Co., Ltd – TISCO. TISCO is the world’s largest manufacturer of stainless steel but also a major maker of carbon steel, and an important customer to Åkers. The name of the JV is Shanxi Åkers TISCO Roll Co. Ltd. (ATR). Åkers is the majority owner, holding 60% of the equity.
